Frequently Asked Questions...
Where do I go to adopt a S.A.F.E. Pet?
SAFE hosts adoption events weekly in the St. Augustine area. Visit our Upcoming Events page or call 904-460-0556 for adoption dates and locations.
Is there an adoption fee?
Yes. The adoption fee is $60 for cats and $75 for dogs. These fees help to cover our veterinary expenses.
Do the animals receive any medical care before being adopted?
Yes. Prior to adoption, ALL S.A.F.E. pets will be spayed or neutered, cats will be tested for feline leukemia and feline aids. Animals over 12 weeks old will have a rabies vaccine, and
all will receive their first distemper/upper resipratory vaccine. They will also be dewormed.
Where do the animals come from?
The majority of our pets come from animal control facilities in the Northeast Florida area. We visit these shelters and remove as many adoptable pets as we can--these are adoptable, friendly pets whose time has run out but who deserve a second chance at a happy life. As soon as the pets in our program get adopted, we go back weekly and save more!
Does S.A.F.E. keep the animals until they are adopted?
Yes. Once an animal enters our program, he or she is indeed "SAFE" and will be kept in a foster home until a permanent loving home can be found.
How can I help?
There are many ways to help. If you have room to spare in your home, consider being a foster parent. If you cannot foster, we always need help at adoption events, transporting animals, and with fundraising. We also need supplies such as food, litter, towels, carriers, cages, and monetary donations for medical care and supplies. See our wish list page or call 904-460-0556 for more info!
Are my contributions tax deductible?
Yes. S.A.F.E. Pet Rescue, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization, and contributions are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.
